Camp Wonder began in the summer of 2012 when ABA Outreach LLC's Kerri Pakurar and Ashley Ulbricht observed a noticeable gap in summer activities for individuals with special needs. They envisioned Camp Wonder as a way to allow children with autism spectrum and related disorders an opportunity to have a similar summer experience as their peers.
That first summer, Camp Wonder only serviced 12 individuals and has since grown to provide a memorable summer experience to over 75 children throughout the Charleston, South Carolina area each year!
The staff at Camp Wonder have designed an environment where children can practice crucial skills along side their peers. Camp Wonder aims to keep low staff to camper ratios in order to ensure that each child receives individualized instruction designed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts and delivered by Registered Behavior Technicians. Our campers work to increase independence and success with pivotal social skills, best taught within the natural environment alongside their peers.
Camp Wonder's goal is to foster a learning environment where our campers are able to engage with their typically developing peers in order to learn from each other. Camp Wonder does weekly community outings as a way to generalize skills learned during camp across environments, as well as target crucial functional life skills.
