What types of activities will my child be engaged in at Camp Wonder?
Camp Wonder includes a variety of structured and play-based activities, including social opportunities, movement activities, crafts, games, sensory activities, group experiences, and themed camp events.
What does the cost of Camp Wonder include?
Camp Wonder is a SOCIAL SKILLS program, which is designed to target peer interactions, group instructions, community awareness and involvement. Camp groups are lead by Registered Behavior Technicians and ABA-trained therapists, and curriculum and instruction are designed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts. Our small staff to camper ratio will ensure your child receives the individualized supports and attention he/she may need to actively participate in camp activities and lessons.

Your camp costs cover predominately staff costs to maintain our small staff to camper ratio, and your camp costs include all supplies, materials, snacks, camp t-shirt, and community venue fees. You just need to provide your camper with lunch.
Will my child go out into the community?
Once a week, campers in the Intermediate, Adolescent and Advanced groups will go out into the community and enjoy practicing skills learned during the week at the community venues. Previous trips have included water parks, trampoline parks, boat rides, aquarium, movie theaters, and restaurants.  Be sure to read the camp orientation packet and the camp newsletters for detailed information about community activities and locations.

Campers in the pre-k or early-learner groups (ages 3-5) will NOT attend community outings, and will have camp as normal at the camp location.

Additionally, we bring the community to camp!  Each week Camp Wonder hosts a variety of community vendors, including food trucks, video game busses, firetrucks, yoga teachers, therapy dogs, health professionals, superheroes, and more!
What should my child wear?
Campers should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes appropriate for active play and outdoor activities.

Campers will be engaging in active games, so shorts and t-shirts are recommended. If specific attire is required for community outing days (for intermediate, adolescent and advanced groups only), such as bathing suits, that information will be conveyed to you via the camp newsletter or Class Dojo App.
What should my child bring to camp?
Families should send:
  • Lunch and snacks
  • Water bottle
  • Change of clothes
  • Communication devices if needed
  • Any needed diapers/pull-ups/wipes/gloves
  • Comfort or sensory items if helpful
  • Any additional items requested by staff - refer to your Class Dojo App
How will families receive updates during camp?
Camp Staff will communicate with parents via the Class Dojo App!  On the app, we will detail your child’s day and his / her progress. You are welcome to write notes back to your camp group leader. Also, you will receive weekly email newsletters describing Camp Wonder’s events, activities, and themes.

Additionally, if you give us permission on your camper’s application, we will take photos of your child having fun at camp, and post them to Camp Wonder’s Facebook page and your Class Dojo page.  You can view them here: Camp Wonder Facebook Page
Can I come observe my child at camp?
Unfortunately, since Camp Wonder is a therapeutic camp, in order to respect the privacy of our campers, we can not allow for people to observe at camp.  Please look for updates on your Class Dojo App!
What happens if my child becomes dysregulated or unsafe?
Camp Wonder staff are trained to support emotional regulation and camper safety using proactive supports, redirection, least-to-most prompting strategies, and other supportive interventions when necessary.
Can my child come if he/she is not potty trained yet?
Yes! We will assist your child with his or her toileting needs. It is the parents’ responsibility to send extra diapers, wipes, and gloves for your child if he/she is not toilet trained. Please include a change of clothes in case there is a toileting accident.
What is your camp sick policy?
If your child has a progressive runny nose, loose bowels, head lice, a fever of 100 degrees or higher, or has vomited within the last 24 hours, please do not send your child to camp. You camper must be symptom-free for 24 hours (without the aide of medication) to return to camp. If your child displays symptoms of illness while at camp, he / she will be sent home, and asked not to return until he / she is symptom-free for 24 hours.
Can my child attend only certain days or weeks of camp?
At this time, Camp Wonder is only able to offer enrollment by full camp session. We are unable to accommodate partial-week, drop-in, or selected-day attendance.
This helps us maintain consistent staffing, camper routines, group cohesion, and individualized support throughout the session.

Please register for the full camp session your child plans to attend.
Will I receive reimbursement if my child misses camp due to illness, vacation, or other absences?
Camp tuition reserves your child’s placement, staffing, materials, and scheduled programming for the full session. For this reason, Camp Wonder is unable to provide refunds, credits, or prorated tuition for missed camp days due to illness, vacation, scheduling conflicts, or other absences.

We appreciate your understanding as this policy helps us maintain consistent staffing and programming for all campers.
Can my child's private therapist (ABA, OT, PT, SLP) provide support during camp?
Yes, you may have your child’s ABA or private therapist such as an OT, SLP or PT attend camp for therapy sessions. There is a section of the application that will allow you to indicate this. If and when your camper is accepted to camp, we will have you supply more details about who is coming on what days and what times for what kind of therapy.

Since this is a therapeutic camp, we have all outside therapists sign confidentiality agreements to protect the privacy of all campers. Additionally, we will need proof of a recent SLED background check for outside therapists.
What happens if a camp session gets filled?
Once a session reaches capacity, additional applicants will be placed on a waitlist. Families will be contacted if space becomes available.
How are campers selected?
Camp placements are determined based on application review, camper needs, staffing availability, and overall group fit to help ensure a safe and successful experience for all campers.
What makes Camp Wonder different?
Camp Wonder combines play, creativity, social engagement, and individualized support within a fun and supportive environment. Our approach emphasizes relationship-building, camper engagement, emotional safety, and evidence-based support strategies while helping campers build confidence, independence, and meaningful peer interactions.
Can Camp Wonder bill my child’s insurance for camp services?
No. Camp Wonder is a private-pay program and we are unable to bill insurance for camp participation.

Insurance-funded ABA services typically require prior authorization, medical necessity documentation, and approval for individualized therapeutic services, which are separate from camp programming. Therefore, camp tuition cannot be submitted through insurance by Camp Wonder.
Can I use a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for camp?
Yes. Many families use Dependent Care FSA funds or employer childcare benefits to pay for Camp Wonder. We can provide receipts or documentation for reimbursement upon request. Please check with your benefits provider for eligibility details.
What are some resources for funding for camp?
Please reach out to various community organizations for support for funding:
  • Walk for Autism Charleston
  • Clap Your Hands Summer Camp Scholarships
  • Your county’s disabilities board

While Camp Wonder does not currently offer direct scholarships, we are happy to provide receipts, invoices, and documentation families may need when applying for reimbursement programs, grants, or funding assistance through outside organizations.
